Lovely Park of Bebek

playground of Bebek Park

The weather was lovely last week. I thought it will be very good for children to go outside and play under the sun. I suggested them a couple of parks, and they chose "Bebek Park" ;))
The view, people, the mosque, the enjoyful and the restful ambiance of Bebek park....You can have a walk, can picnic, can rest at this place at any season of the year.

About Bebek Park;

Bebek Park is located at the shore of Bosphorous's European side and is surrounded by centuries old trees. This area had been decided to be used as public park after the Second Constitutional Era at the Ottoman Empire times. In1998, park has been renovated by Sabancı Foundation and has been renamed as Türkan Sabancı Bebek Park by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council in 2008. (For further info: http://www.sabancivakfi.org/page/turkan-sabanci-bebek-park-3 )

Hıdiva Palace
Must do's:

There is a big playground in the park, which is just in suitable conditions for children. They can slide from the Pirate ship or climb or can play hide and seek :))
Despite of the ship, there are seesaws, swings for both elder and younger children, climbing and swaying bars..
The playground is surrounded by wired fences and a door to keep children not to get far away. This area is 1000 m2 of size, so do not worry, there are really a plenty of room that children can run freely. You can view your children play, while you are sitting on the bench under the pomegranates.

Sandpit and the playground of Bebek Park

My most popular sightsee of the park, is sandpit of course. ( I remember that I used to play sand at the playground in my childhood.) If you find it adequate to play for your children, I suggest you to bring a spare clothes that you can change later on. Also do not forget the beach bucket set!!
( There is a mosque in the park, you can go there and wash the hands later on. I only bring socks and take their shoes off). You must see how babies are having fun at this sand pool. I heard that they clean the sand and the dogs cannot enter the playground since there is a door ;)) So not to worry about the dirtiness...

Open air exercising area

There are open air exercising area for adults in the park. As you are trying to thin your waist, your children can sit and watch you or join your exercise.
If you have a dog, there is a seperated play area for them nearby the kid playground, where they can run freely. The public of Bebek uses this ground very much. (I guess, every village need the same conditions for the animals).
Grass and trees are everywhere. So let them run freely anywhere...
If you have a picnic cloth with you, you can lay down and watch the sky or play ball and jump rope.
The parks at Istanbul are always up in hills, therefore you cannot have the chance to play on a flat area. Here, they can ride bike, use scooter or skate however they wish to..
A final my must is; the decorative fountain of Bebek Park. This is my number one spot to get children wet and have fun, especially at summer time.

My other favourite must do in Bebek is, a mini tour by boat around the shore of Bosphorus. Sightsee of mom at Bebek Park is, children love this tour of ferry very much. My children "Ege" and "Ece"s best is having icecream and getting on the boat!!

The line of the boat is;

@ Sundays and holidays are:
Bebek- Anadolu Hisarı- Kanlıca- Emirgan.
If you are wondering about the famous Kanlıca yoghurt, you can stop at Kanlıca and have the yoghurt. Afterwards take the later boat and return to Bebek.

@ Weekdays and saturday the line is longer:
Arnavutköy- Çengelköy- Bebek- Kandilli- Anadolu Hisarı- Kanlıca- Emirgan- İstinye..

Last suggestion goes for the brave moms; You can have long walk with children on the shore of beautiful Bosphorus. You can see the fishermen and the special species of Bosphorus fishes such as bluefish and horse mackarels...You might even want to catch fish there, who knows...

What about the starving little bodies?

Bebek village has lot of alternatives for eating. So here are my favourite places;
There is a cafe at the seaport (which is our most favourite), the famous Bebek turkish style coffee home, Divan restaurant, McDonald's (if you get food from here, you can make a quick picnic on the grass of park), the waffle houses or icecream...what ever you like to you can find around here.

Transportation:

By Bus:

Take line 40B from Beşiktaş and stop at Bebek.

By Metrobus:

Stop at Zincirlikuyu and take line U1 and U2 busses.

Otağtepe Park in Istanbul

 Istanbul is one of the best cities in the world for its enourmously wonderful panoromic views of Bosphorus. Otağtepe is one of those spots on earth you will never ever want to stop clicking your camera. The park is located in Beykoz village at Asian side of İstanbul. You will notice at your right side  where the huge gorgeous flag of Turkey waving as you are crossing The Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge from Europe to Asia. In history of Ottoman, the camp of army forces had been called as "OTAĞ" and hill means "Tepe" in Turkish. As you combine these two turkish words becomes " Otağtepe ". Now, why this spot is called as Otağtepe? To find out read the historical brief please.  A Historical brief of  Otağtepe İstanbul had been sieged by Sultan Beyazıd of Ottoman in 1391. Gulhane Park at Sultanahmet

Let me start by explaining what Gülhane Park means... It means the House of Roses . Ottoman Sultans liked to maintain the gardens by themselves and their favourite flower had been roses till the Tulip era which put real significance on history of Ottoman Empire. Gulhane Park is located at historical peninsula of Istanbul by the shoreline of Eminönü district.  The historic gardens are adjacent to  Topkapi Palace , which had been used as outer gardens of the imperial life for centuries. This park reminds me of my childhood and as reminds my mother's and her mother's too as on... I remember our picnics with my cousins and my grandfather's taking us to a zoo visit in the park in those days. Yess here I even fed a giraffe with the wood chips.  The animals of the zoo had not been cared well enough and been trash all over in those days. Finally the Municipality of Istanbul moved the zoo to Ankara, the capital city of Turkey. After then the park had been repaygas
